The raffle was a project undertaken in partnership with Campus EIPS, part of Elk Island Public Schools, that saw construction students at Bev Facey construct an 8×8′ garden shed, under the supervision of their instructor, which the ACT then raffled, with proceeds going to support the ACT Turk Mahan Scholarship.
“It’s a beautiful program,” said Adam Holm, Director. “The scholarship is intended to help kids going into the trades and other, non-degree programs so to have a shed built by students pursuing a career as carpenters and other trades people, and then direct the proceeds of the raffle back to the scholarship, it means we can continue supporting these young people to achieve their goals.”
The winner of the raffle gets the shed, sided in their choice of colour and has the shed delivered to their home.
Tom “Turk” Mahan was one of the founding members of the Sherwood Park ACT and received its first charter. Because of his work, and the work of others who helped establish the Sherwood Park ACT, the organization has been able to provide many thousands of dollars to various charities and community organizations as well as many thousands of hours of volunteer work in an effort to make our community better and stronger.
